Five years of answers, finally searchable

An instructor's entire body of knowledge lived in four places at once: years of email replies, a course community, social groups, and a reference library of manufacturer manuals. Tillr Systems built one searchable index across all of it, so a question gets an answer in her own words with the source attached, instead of someone digging through four systems.

The problem

Everything a student might ask had already been answered, just never in one place. The answers sat in inboxes, community threads, and group posts going back years, next to a library of thousands of manuals nobody could search by machine model. The knowledge existed and was effectively unreachable, and answering the same question again cost her time every week.

What we built

  • One index across email, the course community, social groups, and course material, so a single question reaches all of it
  • A reference library of roughly 4,700 manufacturer service manuals, searchable by model number
  • Authorship-aware retrieval: her answers are the source of truth, and other people's guesses are kept out of the results
  • Answers cite the document they came from, and the system is built to say it doesn't know rather than invent
